"THE OL' GUNGA DIN"

This is a series of motivational posters for the Modern Age. The title refers to Rudyard Kipling's epic poem of bravery, honor and service.

I grew up in a home in which sign posters and banners were used to celebrate, encourage and motivate. From "Happy Birthday" to "Go, Dad, Go" a visual reminder was always hanging around. Secondly, at a young age, the text laced artwork of Los Angeles artist Edward Ruscha made a very significant impression. Today, posters are very much a part of my life as I use them to summon my Inner Drill Sergeant to keep me on the straight and narrow.

Although this series has been in progress for over two decades, "The Ol' Gunga Din" made it's debut in the "Pre-Career Survey" show at Occidental College in 2001.
